The first international advisory board meeting of State Key Laboratory of Tribology (SKLT) was held in Tsinghua University, on September 13th and 14th, 2015.

Academician Wen Shizhu, Academician Luo Jianbin and advisory board members including Dr. Hugh Spikes (Imperial College, UK), Dr. Jane Wang (Northwestern University, USA), Dr. Ali Erdemir (Argonne National Laboratory, USA), Dr. Roger Horn (Deakin University, Australia), Dr. Seong Kim (Penn State University, USA), Dr. Duniaki Dohda (Northwestern University, USA) and Dr. Aramaki Hirotoshi (NSK, Japan) along with other officials and scholars attended the meeting.

Dr. Meng Yonggang, Director of State Key Laboratory of Tribology, delivered opening remarks for the meeting. Mr. Zhou Yu, the Head of the Office of Scientific R&D at Tsinghua University, Mr. Gao Runsheng, the Deputy Director of Science and Technology Department, Ministry of Education and Miss Lai Yinan, the delegate from the Division of Engineering and Material Science, NSFC were also invited to speak on behalf of their affiliated units. 

The advisory board members received certificates from Academician Wen Shizhu and then were briefed on the SKLT’s recent research highlights. In the following sessions, the board members evaluated and made recommendations concerning the vision and strategy of the SKLT, research directions and effectiveness of the SKLT, etc. The members also addressed operational issues on World Tribology Congress 2017 and offered valuable suggestions on improving quality of Friction Journal.

The meeting concluded with Academician Luo Jianbin’s closing remarks, in which he extended gratitude to all the board members for attending the meeting and providing abundant suggestions on SKLT’s development.
