The International Workshop on Science of Wear was held in the meeting room A404 in Lee Shau Kee Science &Technology Building in Tsinghua University during September 16th and 18th, 2018.

The workshop attracted over 60 participants in the field of tribology from research institutes and universities of Germany, United States, Japan, Canada, Australia, Israel, Russia, Belarus, Switzerland and China. It included 24 academic presentations, roundtable discussion and banquets.

Members of the International Advisiory Committee of State Key Laboratory of Tribology and the international experts of the International Joint Research Laboratory for Innovative Design and Manufacturing of Advanced Mechanical Systems (IDM Joint Lab) have also attended the workshop.

Professor Yonggang Meng, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Tribology and Executive Director of IDM Joint Lab in Tsinghua University delivered a welcome speech. He and Professor Valentin L. Popov from Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin) co-hosted the workshop.

Participants had academic communication and discussion deeply on several aspects of hot topics such as adhesion and deformation in friction transfer and wear, tribology in hot sheet metal forming, Rabinowicz criterion for adhesive wear: History and applications, energy based wear particle prediction with application in automotive tyres, and friction and wear rate of lubricated point contacts during normal running-in process, etc.
