State Key Laboratory of Tribology (SKLT), Tsinghua University, is a state key laboratory whose construction was authorized by the former State Planning Commission of P.R.China and Ministry of Education of P.R. China. The laboratory was founded in 1986 and officially certificated in November, 1988. Under the supervision of the academic committee, the director is responsible for the whole affairs of the laboratory. Prof. Wen Shizhu, Prof. Chen Darong, Prof. Luo Jianbin, and Prof. Meng Yonggang served as the director of the laboratory consecutively. Currently, Prof. Tian Yu from Tsinghua University is the director of SKLT, and Prof. Ren Luquan, a member of Chinese Academy of Sciences from Jilin University, is the chair of the Academic Committee of SKLT. SKLT focuses on theory and technology of tribology, surface/interface science and property control in machinery, biotribology and biomechanics, micro/nano-manufacturing, micro/nano-photonic technology. It also carries out related technology development and consultation service. The research areas cover friction, wear, lubrication, sealing, surface and interface, micro/nano-manufacturing, intelligent system, biomechanics, micro/nano-photonic devices, etc. SKLT undertakes a lot of research projects including the National Key Basic Research Program (973), the Hi-tech Research and Development Program (863), Major Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the Major and Key Research Programs of NSFC, international collaboration projects, and entrusted programs from companies. The research achievements have significantly contributed to the development of science, technology and national economy. The laboratory is a leading center for research and education of tribology and micro/nano-manufacturing in China.
