Since the foundation in 1988, SKLT has developed to play an important role in international tribology research area, and become a leading center for research and education of tribology, surface/interface engineering and micro/nanomanufacturing in China. To fulfill the requirements of Chinese industry and tribology research, SKLT actively carries out fundamental, strategic, cut-edge researches. Upon the approval of Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the main research areas of SKLT have been adjusted as follows.
Theory and technology of tribology
Including: Friction, Wear, Lubrication, Nanotribology, Lubrication theory and technology of thin films and molecular films, Friction control, Wear mechanism and controlling technology.
Surface/Interface science and properties control in machinery
Including: Topography design and its effect, Interfacial behavior, Advanced coating technology, Sealing technology, Mechanical vibration and control, Intelligent machinery.
Bio-tribology and biomechanics
Including: Biomechanics, Bionics and bio-tribology, Ergonomics, Rehabilitation engineering.
Micro/Nano-manufacturing
Including: Micro/nano-machining, Manufacturing technology of atomic smooth surface, Mechanical properties and its failure mechanism in MEMS, Design theory, manufacturing and control of micro systems, Fault diagnosis of mechanical systems.
Micro/Nano-photonic technology
Including: Laser measurement technology, Measurement technology of surface with sub-nanometer roughness, Manufacturing of micro photonic devices and highperformance photonic devices.
